Ironman 2 is on its way! No doubt the new villain Whiplash will create all kinds of havoc for our friend Tony Stark. The director Jon Favreau revealed to USA Today that Ivan Vanko, Whiplash’s alter-ego “has constructed his own version of a suit,” which includes two whips that are connected to the power-pack on his chest, which I’m sure will cause Ironman some grief. Though Mickey Rourke, cast as Stark’s tattooed Russian nemesis Ivan Vanko, remarks how heavy and uncomfortable the suit is, even for someone as built as he is. I’m sure it will add some cool counterpoint with those tricks on Stark’s Ironman sleeves. Put out by USA Today, pictured here is the first official release of the character Whiplash.
Accompanying the release of the photo included an interview with the films director Jon Favreau. This costume, as Rourke stated in a previous interview has hinted weighs 23 lbs and bears a somewhat resemblance to the one Ironman uses to fight off crime. “The technologies are definitely related. That’s the part of the core theme of the film.” Favreau shares. It will be a plus, having Rourke as a villain; is sure to bring some extra thrills to the audiences as well, Favreau adds, judging from this performances in movies such as “Sin City” and “The Wrestler.”
Ironman 2 also stars Gwyneth Paltrow; returning as Pepper Potts, Samuel L. Jackson is back as Nick Fury. New members of the impressive cast include: Don Cheadle as James Rhodes; Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer; and Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow. Hopefully, there won’t be too many more characters as we saw in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, where an hour and forty-five minute time slot doesn’t effectively allow for development for such a large cast of characters.
The film is expected to be released April of 2010.
